Ab Ovo MOUVEMENTS
It took some time for J.Chassagnard & R.Baillet to finalize this new work of art. The project's trade-mark of dark
soundscapes and well-placed rhythms can also be found on here. What might be a bit surprising though is the emphasis on
rhythm; the opener 'Hémisphère' f.e. contains a straight, almost trip-hop oriented beat that demands the listener's
attention. The haunting, hypnotizing mood is still there but now it is tied to a metric like structure that wasn't obvious
in Ab Ovo's previous releases. Sometimes, these beats are actually just bits - as in 'Inlandsis', where a short drum & bass
interference emerges for just a few seconds. Well placed samples, as in 'Diaclase', enrich Ab Ovo's sound perfectly while
not overwhelming the electronic sequences. Voices - as a sample in 'you are very far now' or as real vocals on 'in some
ways' are also more apparent than before. Especially Judith Juillerat's guest appearance which pushes Ab Ovo toward a
direction they are unknown for - a beautiful song which could also attract 4AD addicts. The co-written track, 'the long
tomorrow', ends the album with a breeze of sadness and melancholy - the perfect ending for a truly astounding album by this

Adam ADAM
While building their music on a solid foundation of EBM-sequencers, Techno-beats and melodic Trance-leads, combined with
aggressive shouts, Adam manage to intermingle classic Hardfloor with light, melodic Eighties-influences. The voice of the
quartet's singer, Jeez's raw charm displays a certain affinity towards Dark Metal shouts, thus unleashing a far greater
aggressive potential than the usual high-pitched screeches. The guy can really sing and doesn't hesitate to showcase his
talents. This balancing act between aggression and emotions spawns a whole new sub-genre: Emo-Hardfloor. A showcase example
is Adam's version of the 80's classic "Send Me an Angel" by Real Life. While transforming the piece into a much harder and
contemporary club context, is melodic essence is left intact. This romantic New Wave number becomes a first-class floor
burner.

Alien Produkt IGNORANCE
Not since the onslaught of Hocico from Mexico has South American / Latin American elektro offered such a true champion of

Bola GNAYSE
In the scheme of things there are a number of electronic artists now who have, by releasing quality album after quality
album become modern-day classic electronic artists. Darrell Fitton (aka Bola), although he'd never admit it, is one of
these alongside Autechre, Boards Of Canada, Plaid and Aphex Twin. The reason you probably know little about Bola is that
he's easily the most reclusive of these, though we'd argue that his music is equal, if not better in terms of form and
beauty. Bola hails from Rochdale the same northern town as Gracie Fields and Autechre who, incidentally, introduced Darrell
to the Skam label (Autechre that is, not Gracie). They also collaborated on another Skam project, Gescom, but where friends
Autechre perhaps reflect the industrial heritage of Rochdale in their uncompromising compositions, Bola's sound is that of
the surrounding hills, moors, streams, canals. Something more gentle and thoughtful (an interesting contradiction
considering his studio's in the centre of town).
Gnayse is the third Bola album following on from Soup and Fyuti. We reckon it's the most complete -- one of those perfect
albums with a beginning, middle and an end, 'Soup's a bit naïve to say the least' explains Darrell of his earlier work. 'I
hope people think I have gone forward, I might be going backwards'. A statement from Darrell that unintentionally sums up
the timelessness of Bola's music in fact he listens to hardly any contemporary music, 'I'm a jazz head -- that's what I
listen to, jazz and classical. I don't really listen to electronica at all.' Mind, we advise you not to take Darrell's
advice and if you listen to any electronica listen to Bola.

Bola SHAPES
Shapes is the fourth Bola album from Darrell Fitton following on from his now-classic, Gnayse. These tracks were first
released as a triple 12'' package shortly after Bola's first full length album Soup in 1999. The release was simply
packaged with no artist or label credits, just a white shape on a black background on each of the labels. There were just
over 300 copies released worldwide so, not surprisingly, it came and went quickly, and has become a release much sought
after by the collectors. We always felt that the tracks deserved a wider audience so recently we blew the dust off the DAT
tape, had the tracks remastered, added three bonus tracks for good measure, including two unreleased tracks written during
the same period, and here's the result: the Shapes CD.

E-Craft UNSOCIAL THEMES
Anyone who thought old school EBM was dead has been proven wrong for some time. The Electro version of Punk that was born
in the mid-80s is experiencing a brilliant revival, as the EBM festivals and parties held everywhere show. E-Craft are
probably the most famous (East) German EBM band and have been representing the original electronic genre for 11 years on a
national and international level.
They have now finished recordings on their first all new album since their 2004 "Status" double-CD, a sort of 'Best of with
remixes, new songs and live recordings! Entitled "Unsocial Themes", it is a hard-hitting big-time event of noise,
distortion and beat amplification for every shady club on Earth.
E-Craft have been the top German representatives of EBM culture for 11 years and are a symbol of resilience. As the years
passed, they developed their own style of EMB and Industrial Terror. Brutally forceful sequences, tough lashing sound
waves, Noise-Art and lasting melodies form a perfect combination and highlight the beauty of synthetic sounds.
In recent years, E-Craft have managed to build up a broad national and international fan base. Their special strengths lie
in live appearances, setting them apart from other great bands in the genre. In addition to a UK tour and gigs in
Scandinavia, Belgium, France and Mexico, E-Craft have been on several major tours in the USA - the last of which included
35 venues. No other German Electro or Gothic band has been on such an extensive tour in America before.
The songs of the new album present ecstatic electronic depths with a raw, confident melodic density and a typical
energy-loaded E-Craft style - as can be heard on "Gerichtet" or "Feindfahrt". The lyrics focus on "Unsocial Themes", an
E-Craft tradition criticising social injustice, as is particularly clear on the tracks "Revolts Blood" and "Funny Stuff".
The calmer tracks such as "Global Killer" are given more room for spherical sequences and include very intricate melodic
and spatial arrangements. The album also includes creative instrumental tracks that underline the broad spectrum of the
band's arrangements.

Living in Leeds/UK, Keith 'Keef' Baker has been writing music under various names since '89. Starting out in death metal
bands and moving into indie and jazz, Keef became a session bassist and also a computer game musician. Over the years, he
learned to play various instruments including bass, keyboard, guitar, drums, mandolin, sitar and double bass. However he
rediscovered music through bands such as SKINNY PUPPY, TEST DEPT. and AUTECHRE in the early to mid-90s which was when his
attention turned to more electronic music. Through the years this music has mutated into a cross breed of influences. In
his own words, the 'Keef Baker' project started as a cross between Gridlock, Somatic Responses, Venetian Snares and the
'tri repetae' period of Autechre: 'I have expanded (these influences) to include a lot more including dub, jazz, bits of
metal, funk, post-rock, straight drum & bass, indie-rock and the like.' The uniqueness of Keef's musical talent can be
described in mixing the above mentioned influences without breaks within one single track. Melodic idm, breakcore effect
usage and sampling weirdness endorse each other, the changing of rhythms totally make sense, the different moods keep the
listener in a permanent state of positive tension. A perfect symbiosis of electronic and acoustic instruments ('tombola
thrill killer' with its embedded electric bass might be an example). Production quality is stunning: Clear, powerful and
transparent.

Phantom West ALEPH NULL
If there is one thing that you can rely on when it comes to Phantom West, it is, ironically, unpredictability. The striking
yet harmonious differences between his first full-length release, Chimaera, and the follow-up EP, The Rain Expedition, were
already enough to strike the curiosity of any synthpop aficionado. The latter project’s softer more melodic sound is
nothing like the complex instrumentals from his first release, which is epic and dystopian in its musical execution,
although both works still manage to effortlessly retain the cinematic aspect that has quickly become a trademark of the
Phantom West sound. His latest and most fully realized project to date, Aleph Null, is yet another key piece in his
impressive repertoire and one that clearly marks him as a fantastically unpredictable artist. Aleph Null is Phantom West’s
second full-length release, containing a broad spectrum of eclectic tracks to suit any listener’s evolving musical moods.
The album’s openers, "Ghosts on the Road" and "One More Time,” are full of complicated instrumentations that are peppered
with always aptly placed electronic bits and blips. "Singularity,” the third track, takes us even further down the
electronic path with beats and samples that bring to mind some classic acts from the second wave of industrial music. Aleph
Null continues with the already classic, "The Rain Expedition," and the cinematic instrumental, "Aurora,” which together
serve as an exemplary lead in to the ambitious epic “Sic Transit Gloria Mundi.” “Sic Transit Gloria Mundi” evokes thoughts
of classic A Different Drum styled synthpop, but with a darker feel and cryptic lyrics. Phantom West takes the synthpop cue
one step further by covering an obscure New Order track, “Doubts Even Here.” The track first appeared as a producer's pick
on Community, the New Order supervised and sponsored tribute album for the band. Lest any docile listeners get “too
comfortable” with Phantom West’s synth sound, he deliciously breaks the flow with "Anathema" and "Autochroma," waking us up
with gloomy drumbeats and distorted instrumentation reminiscent of Maynard James Keenan’s classic sound. "Construct of
Elysium,” a fourteenminute epic, and "Valles Marineris" clear up the storm of the previous two tracks and prepare us for
the exiting track, "Obsidian,” a mellow, ambient cut that serves as a rather fitting farewell this singular piece of work.

Rorschach Garden, The THE TOY FACTORY
It has been two years since Rorschach Garden's last album, 'Our Japanese Friends', but the world is still enjoying their
mixture of danceable beats, melodies that are full of charm and unique vocals. The music hits the listener right in the

SD6 BETWEEN NOISE AND TRANSMISSION
Rising from the ashes of the Portland, Oregon electronic act, Omnibox, SD6 was officially born in 2002. After a seemingly
never-ending search for additional personnel, singer/songwriter Brandon Jerwa reassigned manager Jessica Blackshear to the
role of a full-fledged band member. Soon enough, everything naturally fell into place: relocation to Seattle turned out to
be a creative breath of fresh air, and the duo quickly found their missing link with the addition of highly skilled
keyboardist Nicole Edmonds. Further along the way, the circle widened to include Fritter (former drummer for
Backandtotheleft, Noxious Emotion and Omnibox). Jerwa’s sudden – and successful – breakthrough as a comic book writer
forced the band to take their time during the recording process, so they simply rolled with the punches. The extra time
spent on the record paid off, allowing the band’s sound to grow and evolve naturally for their first release, rather than
forcing the process through the crunch of deadlines. With everything in place, Tom Shear of Assemblage 23 was recruited for
his well-known production polish to bring out the best in the music created by the band. The result is the band’s debut,
“Between Noise and Transmission,” a unique blend of emotionally intense lyrics, ear-catching melodies, and relentless dance
beats with a fluid electronic backdrop. Indeed, the album is a still-life portrait of a band constantly in motion, but
unwilling to be pushed in one defined direction. The band continues to play regular shows, supporting such acts as
Covenant, Melotron, Cesium 137 and Icon of Coil. Full-scale tour plans are currently being mapped out for 2007, following
the release of the new record.

Terminal 11 FRACTURED SUNSHINE
Once, Terminal 11's music was described as: it's like hearing a drum machine for the very first time. This description does
seem like the perfect definition of Mike Castaneda's sound - especially after listening to his com-pilation appearances and
the brilliant 'illegal nervous habits' CD. The term 'beats' is redefined by the sound maniac from Arizona. A whirl of
samples, time lapse meters and black hole like compression of track structures - 'Terminal 11s sounds roams in an
accelerated twilight zone where music turns into data and data turns into music' (Jason Forrest). On 'Fractured Sunshine'
all this madness is present, but Castaneda has straightened out everything a tiny bit. 'Counter clockwise chant pattern'
for example has a song like structure - including a 'bridge' and some sort of 'chorus'. However, Terminal 11 has rebuilt
the patterns of today's popular music into something new. This is far beyond 'academic electronic music' where only sound
itself counts; you can always hear the human being behind the knobs that are being pushed. This music arrogates
intransigently - it has to be listened to.
